Math........................Add-ON???

Mathematics is the study of quantity, structure, space, change, and related topics of pattern and form.
To be honest, I really hate Mathematics since elementary. I even curse this subject every time I don’t understand a particular problem or solution. My head always turns upside down, and I even want to cry if we have a test on this particular subject. We have this graphs, different weird equations and values like “y” and “x”. As we advance to high school I learned Algebra, Geometry, Calculus, etc… Wow! We even have Math Basic and Math Add On. Mathematics is enough for a day but when we had an add-on? That’s ridiculous. But as days, weeks and years past by, I learned to adopt and adjust.
Basic Mathematics equations and problems admit it or not, are very important in our day to day lives. Like in business, accountancy, engineering and millions and millions of jobs in this whole industry needs it. Physics also have Mathematics; of course, they are the best of friends. Yet when we have this different kind of theorems, circles, conics, triangles, equations like 3x+7y=? I really don’t understand its significance. How can we apply this in our day to day lives? Is it needed in accountancy or in business? Is it needed in stores? I even ask myself, “Who invented these weird Mathematical equations?” I guess God would only know that, but perhaps for those who are addicted to Math like my big sister, I think they wouldn’t curse Math like what I am doing now.
When I was in 1st year high school, we didn’t had Math add-on, I guess we were lucky or maybe not. But when we reached 2nd year high school, we had our first Math add-on, Mr. Pacayra was our Math Basic and Math add-on subject teacher. I really appreciated how he teaches the subject, although I sometimes got failing marks. We all love Mr. Pacayra that time; he was not only a good subject teacher but also a friendly guy. He’s really intelligent, to tell you. One thing I hate about the way he teach, he teaches a lesson like a speed of light and give us a test that I can’t barely understand. Maybe for those who are really fond of Math can understand Mr. Pacayra’s system of teaching Math.
When I step on 3rd year high school, Mrs. Colon was our Math add-on teacher. I admit all of us were afraid of her. She was really strict and even made some of my classmates cry every time she scolds them for not knowing the answer of a particular problem. We even hide in our chairs for her not to call us and let us answer on the blackboard. For some reasons, we understand and learned plenty of lessons about Geometry and Algebra. She is indeed intelligent; I even fancy having some of her intelligence and skills in Math like my older sister, Danica.
And the last stage of Math add-on survival challenge, 4th year high school. We met three subject teachers, Mr. Arado, Ms. Sevilla and Ms. Pajaron. They are also Math addicts. First was Mr. Arado, he first taught us Geometry. He tackled those lessons we missed during our 3rd yr. Math classes. At first I didn’t like him; he was sort of snobbish and strict. Of course first impression never last, that’s why as days past by, I learned that he was very approachable and he really tried his best just for us to understand the lesson well. During 2nd Quarter, we eventually tackled on Analytic Geometry. We had these formulas, and how to plot a given line in a graph. It was cool then, I even got passing grades. But for some personal reasons, Mr. Arado left us. Then we had Ms. Sevilla as Mr. Arado’s substitute for a while. We tackled on conics (circles), until our permanent Math add-on teacher, Ms. Pajaron, has arrived. She taught us about Ellipse, Parabola, etc… Boy, it was hard. Not only because we were adjusting to our new subject teacher, it’s also because we had a hard time memorizing all those spine chilling equations. But now we have already adjusted and even like the subject well. Although this quarter’s lesson is harder than the last quarter’s, I think I can cope up “pa naman”. ^^
Math is easy as ABC… “daw,” maybe for some. But I guess if you just try your best, Impossible things will all be made possible.
