“We were strangers starting out on a journey
(from the song At the Beginning with You)

A journey… The Promenade Every man starts with a simple journey, never expecting what things would come along the way. Like they say “To get through the hardest journey we need to take only one step at a time, but we must keep on stepping.”

“Never dreaming, how our dreams would come true…”

It was an evening full of radiance and beauty, a precious experience we never thought that would really happened. A dream that came in reality, it was like magic and we believe that if you see the magic in a fairy tale, you can face the future, and life itself is the most wonderful fairy tale.

But before these radiance and beauty, like what past juniors experienced as a host, we also encountered hundreds of complicated problems. It was not easy doing business for every activity in our school just to have money, how we managed to widen and thickened our faces singing Christmas carols to different houses and realized that you can’t certainly pleased everybody, the unexpected accidents that some of our classmates encountered, the practices, the preparations for the decorations and awards, and “the thousands and millions of sermons we heed every time we made mistakes.” But still we handled it because no problem is so formidable that you can't walk away from it.

“Now here we stand, unafraid of the future, at the beginning with you…”

It all started during the first day of classes. We were excited and thrilled because this was the year that we’re going to host the juniors’ and seniors’ promenade. We started planning for the different fund raising activities. During those activities we have gone through the frustrations and joys of businessmen. We became frustrated when others would not cooperate, and when profit is little. We enjoyed when our money came back more than what we expected. We sacrificed our free time to attend to the needs of the promenade. And it was really a hard job because we were on our own! We were like fireflies with no fire, and peacock without feathers. We constantly loose our feather of courage every time we were scolded. We admit that we were frogs that kept on crossing the street without knowing that there are vehicles that would eventually crush us. But we have no choice, if we do not move a muscle; we won’t reach the other side of the road. We can’t wait for others to dictate us because if we do, we would lose our precious time.

“I knew there was somebody, somewhere…Like me alone in the dark. Now I know my dreams will live on, I’ve been waiting so long…Nothing’s gonna tear us apart”

Yes, there are times that we were scattered and would not care to cooperate. We were on our own, and would not lend a hand. It was a great mistake we have done, but along the way of our journey we suddenly woke up from a deep sleep and realized how great our fault was. The batch that was broken inside finally rebuilt itself. The tasks towards the most awaited event passed like a breeze because everyone started to work

“…I’ll be there when the world stops turning, I’ll be there when the storm is through…”

Then at last, the most awaited part, the Promenade ball. Flocks of beautiful swans and charming drakes flooded the palace. With sweaty hands and shaky legs, we marched along the aisle of the hall. Our Promenade ball was held last February 16, 2008. It was celebrated at Sabin Resort Hotel in Ormoc, City. Surrounded by the shining, shimmering colors of the place, we felt the delight, the contentment, and of course the tension as hosts of the said event. It reminds us that nobody can go back and start a new beginning, but anyone can start today and make a new ending. The program flowed like the waters in the stream. It ran smoothly towards the end, still there were little rocks along the way that threatened the flow. Luckily, we successfully overcome those little obstacles. The most important part of this event was the passing of the responsibilities of the seniors to the juniors. For us we felt our importance because they have entrusted these responsibilities. But the most awaited part was the mouth watering dishes! Everyone was busy eating those meals followed by the awarding and the Royal Dance. The Royal Dance was headed by the evening’s Royal Couple, Mr. Kenneth J. Conde and Ms. Ma. Dawn Bernadine S. Holganza. The girls felt like Cinderella with their very own prince charming on the dance floor.

“…in the end I wanna be standing at the beginning with you”

That night was like a fairy tale, and until now we believe it was. The pumpkin was changed into a magnificent carriage, the dog was changed into a stallion, and the ordinary pair of shoes was changed into a pair of glass slippers. We totally changed ourselves physically and socially. Yet, from being mischievous we became formal lads and lasses. We enjoyed the music and even got angry when the melody suddenly changes. But in life, changes are inevitable. We may continue dancing with the rhythm of life, but we must also go with the change of music. Though after the promenade, we heard the anger of the gods above, but we charge it to experience! After all, what would life be without mistakes?
